Trying New Styles

So I've decided that I'm going to start showing some of my traditional art in some local art shows. I can't remember if I've stated this in previous entries or not so if I'm just repeating myself I apologize lol. I've also wanted to try some other styles using different mediums. Last night I went to a local art store and purchased a pretty decent sized canvass and some acrylic paints so I'm going to attempt to paint something. I was thinking about painting one of my older drawings seen here [link] I just have to wait until I get paid next week so I can get more materials haha. I forgot how much money paints cost. *It sucks majorly that each tube is extremely small and about 12 dollars a piece* It amazes me how the canvass was cheaper than the paint. Go figure. Anyway, I was thinking about doing the catipillar picture and using bright blues and greens in it just so I've got some art thats got some color to it.

Suggestions?

If anyone has any suggestions for anything for me to draw, paint or make digitally I'd love to hear them. I've hit a rut again and don't really know what to draw so please let me know if you've got any ideas. Also if anyone wants to be a model for any of my pictures just let me know.

Possible Inactivity

I just figured I'd let everyone know that I might not be as active as I have been in the past. I finally got a new job and my schedule will keep me somewhat busy. I'll try to keep making things on my days off but I can't really promise anything. I'm currently working on another portrait so when I get some time I'll work on that. I'll probably post a WIP sometime soon. Digital art is going to be on hold for awhile I think...I kind of missed traditional art so I think I'm going to start that up for awhile.

I'd Like Everyone's Opinions

Alright so I'm just wondering everyones opinions on an artist using stock photos. There have been numerous teachers that I've heard of that will tell someone that their art that they did isn't really art just because they used a stock image. I personally think that its rediculous. If someone puts their time and effort in something and made it their own *with permission from the stock artist of course* then it should be considered art. Another thing I don't really get is why its looked down on if you use stock photos and yet art teachers are constantly like TODAY WE ARE MAKING A COLLAGE GO CUT OUT IMAGES FROM MAGAZINES *I believe images in magazines are copywrited usually..* It's so frustrating to have worked for so long on a piece of work only to have an instructor tell you that its crap. I've actually had a college professor look at my portfolio and basically shun it just because I didn't take the original photos. I use stock photos mainly because I have no models, and my camera kind of sucks. I just think its stupid to get on people's cases about that. I understand that they might think it was plagerism but if you state where you got the image and clarify that it was a stock image I dont see the huge problem with it.

What's your thoughts/comments on this?
